We took Aesop's Fable "The Tortoise and The Hare" to heart when we were creating these confections. Making the caramel we use in our variation of the classic "turtle" is definitely a slow and steady artisanal process, but we think it makes all the difference. The set of twelve features six Maple Pecan and six Cinnamon Cashew Tortoises. The confections arrive beautifully packaged in a John & Kira's gift box.
Ingredients and Care

SHELF LIFE — Pralines and items made with nuts are best enjoyed within 6 weeks at room temperature.

CHOCOLATE TORTOISES INGREDIENTS — 62% Dark Chocolate (cocoa beans, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural vanilla extract), Roasted Cashews, Sugar, Heavy Cream, Roasted Pecans, 30% White Chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, dried skim milk, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural vanilla flavor), Maple, Raw Sugar, Glucose, Sea Salt, Cinnamon.

CONTAINS — MILK AND TREE NUTS - CASHEWS AND PECANS. Made on shared equipment with tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and egg protein.

Love the cinnamon ones

I LOVE the cinnamon cashew turtles. Not a big fan of the maple pecan. I really wish they sold each version in its own exclusive package. I can't bring myself to buy these knowing I'm really only going to enjoy half of them.

John & Kira's is an amazing company! They use local ingredients to make the prettiest chocolates ever! I enjoy ordering them for myself as well as for gifts. Excellent customer service. The Tortoises are soooo delicious, and the ladybugs and bees are as pretty as they are tasty!

I would give these a 10 on the 0-5 scale. Wonderful dark chocolate coating over the perfect caramel with just the right balance of nuts - they truly are amazing. My husband and I are foodies, chocolate connoisseurs (aka snobs) - John & Kira's tortoises (the figs too) are our go-to special occasion treat. We might have invented a few extra "special occasions" when they are on sale. And, I am a registered dietitian who loves chocolate and definitely thinks these are worth it:) Thank you John & Kira!

I have ordered from John and Kira's quite and few times and always get tremendous responses from everyone I have sent chocolates. Turtles, figs ,peanut butter chocolates and assorted chocolates-you really can't go wrong with anything. The presentation is amazing and the chocolates are high quality and beyond delicious!

Deliciously Different Tortoises

These tortoises are different in the nuts and the flavors in the caramel. I really love both flavors. Note the cinnamon and the maple are very noticeable so they really are NOT like the typical turtle. The nuts are crunchy as they should be where many a turtle I have eaten has stale nuts and rock hard caramel. I too am a fan of the caramel bees and every flavor box. Thanks and keep up the excellent chocolate making. I have to order my chocolates on line but they always arrive quickly and in excellent condition.

The superior relative to the humble turtle

People, these things are flat-out incredible. We have loved everything we have eaten from J&K (with the exception of the pumpkins), but these are truly incredible. I expected to love the cashews, and the cinnamon scented caramel is delicately balanced, but the pecan tortoises were the winner. The maple caramel didn't taste like the syrup, but rather like a deeper, more complex caramel. Truly a treat. Love that we can buy these at local farmers' markets!
